PL gem & 'beautiful' 25-year-old: 3 goalkeepers Sheffield Wednesday could replace Beadle with - opinion

Here are three goalkeepers that Sheffield Wednesday could make first-choice once James Beadle’s loan spell ends.

Sheffield Wednesday face a mass exodus this summer as eleven players’ contracts expire, while a further seven loanees could return to their parent clubs.

James Beadle is one of those, having joined the Owls from Brighton & Hove Albion in January.

The 19-year-old had spent the first half of the campaign with Oxford United and had picked up seven clean sheets in League One, while it didn’t take him very long to establish himself as the first choice goalkeeper at Hillsborough either.

After settling for a place on the bench in his first game at the club, Beadle has now started the last eleven games in the Championship and has bagged five clean sheets – the second highest clean sheet percentage out of any goalkeeper with more than two appearances in the league.

Beadle’s potential means Sheffield Wednesday have no hope in bringing him in permanently in the summer, while they could also offload Cameron Dawson at the end of his contract.

Danny Rohl‘s side are likely to be on the hunt for a new goalkeeper, whatever division they are in next season.

Here are three shot-stoppers they could snap up if they avoid relegation…

Lukas Jensen

The Dane’s recent form has been spectacular, picking up nine of those clean sheets in his last 12 games, while he has conceded the second-lowest amount of goals in the league with 33.

The 25-year-old also caught the eye when he saved two penalties in a shootout against Sheffield United earlier in the season, before he was named as the Carabao Cup player of the round.

Jensen signed a two-year deal with The Imps in the summer, so will be entering the final 12 months of his contract next season.

Aro Muric

Aro Muric joined Burnley from Manchester City in 2022 and was a regular in their promotion-winning squad, as well as being named in the PFA Team of the Year after picking up 19 clean sheets.

The Kosovo international has had to settle for a place on the bench in the Premier League, with the Clarets signing another Man City academy graduate in James Trafford.

Muric will surely feel he should be playing regular football, though he was handed his first start in the top flight in their win over Brentford last time out.

The ‘beautiful’ 25-year-old’s future could depend on whether he can keep his place in the team, though Sheffield Wednesday could try to sign him on loan if he is set for another season on the bench.

Joe Whitworth

Joe Whitworth has come up through Crystal Palace’s academy and has been a key player for the various youth sides, before being awarded with a contract extension last year.

The youngster made his senior debut for the Eagles in the M23 derby last season and became their youngest ever goalkeeper as they were beaten 1-0, before starting once again against Arsenal days later.

Patrick Vieira previously praised Whitworth for his ‘really strong potential’, while he could look to pick up some important experience out on loan next season.
