'I've been told': Journalist shares what people in football say about Michael Edwards' scouting network

FSG have gone and got their man back by convincing Michael Edwards to return to the club.

Liverpool’s owners saw Edwards’ return as key with Jurgen Klopp leaving, as they look to ensure the smoothest transition possible.

Edwards has already had an impact in the few weeks he’s been back by bringing in Richard Hughes from Bournemouth to work under him.

Next on the agenda for Edwards and Hughes is to make a decision on Liverpool’s next manager. Xabi Alonso, Ruben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi are all linked with a move to Anfield.

Edwards is expected to get it right whoever he goes with. And from there, he’ll also go about recommending new players to the club and it’s new boss.

And according to journalist Mark Ogden, Edwards has his fingers on the pulse on everything in the football world.

What people in football say about Michael Edwards and his scouting network

Edwards is well known for being a key part of the revolution at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp.

And speaking to ESPN, journalist Ogden has shared what people in football say about Edwards when it comes to his contacts within the game.

“Michael Edwards was the architect of Klopp’s success. Obviously Klopp was at the heartbeat of it. But without Edwards and the scouting team he set up, you know. Michael Edwards has a very small scouting network but he trusts the scouts he’s got. Man United have a massive one, they’ve got too many scouts. I’ve been told that Michael Edwards is one of the most connected people in the game,” Ogden said.

“He knows the players coming through, the coaches coming through, he can pick up a call this guy or that guy. He knows six months before everyone else, who the players are and who the coaches are. That’s why I think he might pull a rabbit out of the hat.”

An exciting summer coming for Liverpool

While Klopp leaving will hurt the club and it will feel strange for a time, it’s also a real opportunity for Liverpool to move forward as well.

With Michael Edwards back at the helm and comments like this backing up his credentials, Liverpool fans should be excited about what’s to come.

Klopp will be leaving a squad in a good place. But a new manager is going to want some of his own new players and Edwards’ track record suggests some good signings will be made.

Liverpool, then, are in for a big summer of change and one that fans can be confident the club will manager well.
