Green Brigade's rallying call as Celtic Women look to create SWPL history

The Green Brigade has issued a rallying call as Celtic Women bid to create SWPL history this season.

The Celtic fans will remember last season when Fran Alonso took his Celtic team to within a whisker of the SWPL title last season only to lose out to a last-minute Glasgow City equaliser against Rangers at Ibrox denying Celtic Women their first-ever league title.

Such was the backing the team was getting from the supporters, Celtic decided to stage the final three fixtures against Rangers, Glasgow City and Hearts at Parkhead to give the Women the best chance to win the title by getting as many Celtic fans through the doors as possible.

And the fans responded in their droves. Not once, but twice, Celtic broke the record-ever attendance figure for a SWPL match with 15,000 fans descending on Celtic Park to back the Ghirls.

That figure was helped, in the main, by the Green Brigade who continually put out social media posts on X calling on the Celtic fans to back Alonso’s side.

And now, with the Ghirls sitting second in the league just one point behind City and ahead of Rangers on goal difference, they are getting ready to face Glasgow City on the 31st of March at Petershill Park.

But the Green Brigade have now issued another plea to the fans to replicate their outstanding support from last season as the title run-in heats up.

On social media channel X, The North Curve put, “Last May, Paradise belonged to the Ghirls as record crowds got behind them for a dramatic season end.

“Once again, fans have the opportunity to join The Celtic End and create the same wall of noise and colour that inspired the Ghirls.

“Ticket details will be confirmed ASAP.”

Despite losing out on the league, Alonso did take his team to Scottish Cup glory to finish off their season in style after defeating Rangers in the final.

Celtic will also face Hearts at Celtic Park on the 21st of April and Rangers and Glasgow City in May. The game against City on the 1st is a home game at Excelsior Park with a 6:15pm kick off but it is likely that is now going to be switched to Parkhead.

The final match of the season against Hibs is pencilled in for the 21st of May at Celtic Park in what is sure to be an explosive final, and hopefully historic, day for the Ghirls.
