Report: £20m Chelsea player has returned from international duty, he is actually injured

Reports have claimed that one Chelsea player has now come back to Stamford Bridge after attempting to represent his country during the international break.

According to the England Football website, Carney Chukwuemeka has returned to his club side in order to work on his return to fitness.

Chukwuemeka was deemed fit enough for a call up to the U21 side for the first time in his career, after making a statement with a number of the Young Lions sides.

Chukwuemeka scores late vs Leicester

This is despite him only featuring from the bench for a few Chelsea games in recent weeks, off the back of an injury setback.

He missed the best part of five months earlier this season due to a tough knee injury, and he was back on the treatment table not long after.

Appearances off the bench against Newcastle in the Premier League and Leicester in the FA Cup have at least seen him return to action, and he was back amongst the goals with a huge strike in the latter.

Chukwuemeka leaves England camp after injury

Chelsea fans will have been worried though when he wasn’t named in the side for the first of two fixtures for the U21 side, with the commentator for that game stating it was down to an injury that shouldn’t keep him out of the next game.

This doesn’t seem to have been the case though, with it being reported he is back at Stamford Bridge to continue his recovery to full fitness.

Mauricio Pochettino will likely be really disappointed by the news, given he has looked to utilize the youngster whenever the opportunity has been there.

It has been a stop-start beginning to his Chelsea career for Chukwuemeka since he made the £20m move, however it is clear to those watching that there is a real star waiting to break out when he is finally fully fit again.
