Every manager Newcastle United have been linked with amid Eddie Howe uncertainty

Newcastle United have not had the best of seasons – which has led to speculation it may be Eddie Howe’s time to go.

Eddie Howe has almost been the architect of his own downfall at Newcastle United. Since his arrival in 2021, he’s completely transformed the Magpies into a Champions League competing side. He’s brought in a plethora of supremely talented names, including the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon. We could go on.

But with the 23/24 campaign a real letdown, there is talk about whether the Englishman’s contract should be renewed, given that it’s up in the summer of 2024. The big question that follows this is – who would replace him? With this – here are all the managers linked with the Magpies.

Please note, we are not ‘Howe out’ whatsoever. These are merely the managers linked with a move to St James’ Park by other news outlets.

Former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is a candidate, with reports suggesting the 59-year-old Premier League winner could be an option if PIF decides to make a change at St James’ Park.

He is currently the manager of the Saudi Arabia national team, having replaced Herve Renard as their permanent head coach last year – but he could be tempted if an offer from the Magpies came in.

It has emerged that Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann could be considered for the job should Newcastle rid of Howe.

A report also claims the 36-year-old will be looking for a new club job after this summer’s Euro 2024 tournament amid Newcastle’s interest. Nagelsmann is a serial winner and would be a fine acquisition on Tyneside.

Premier League legend Jose Mourinho is without a job after being sacked by Roma – so obviously there are links here.

The Metro reports that Newcastle’s Saudi owners have huge ambitions, which has seen the club linked with hiring a bigger-name manager, most notably Mourinho.

The Portuguese icon comes with risk, but could also provide great reward. Some pundits would love to see this happen.

There’s a possibility that Newcastle could target Barcelona boss Xavi in the coming months as he is set to leave the Spanish club at the end of the season.

Having won the La Liga title with his former side last season, Xavi feels it is time to move on to a new challenge, and Newcastle are showing interest in the 44-year-old.

This would be a seriously shock appointment – but could it be what’s needed around the Newcastle United Training Centre?
