Taylor Hawkins’ death happened hours before the band was due to perform

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins was found dead in his hotel room in Colombia, where he was scheduled to perform with the band later that evening.

Emergency services were called up to the 50-year-old’s room as he was complaining of chest pains, where he was found unresponsive and tragically declared dead at the scene.

His cause of death was not immediately revealed, but toxicology tests later showed he had at least 10 substances in his body.

“Colombia’s attorney general’s office said analysis of Hawkins’ urine found traces of marijuana, opioids, tricyclic antidepressants, and benzodiazepines, which can be used to treat insomnia or anxiety,” the Guardian reported.

Columbian Magazine Semana claimed the music star died of a sudden cardiac arrest “caused by an overdose of heroin, antidepressants and benzodiazepines.”

They also claimed forensic experts had been “shocked” at how swollen his hands had become.

What the band said after the drummer’s death

After the unexpected death, the band released a statement, which read: “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us for ever.”

On the night he died, the stage the band was meant to perform on at the Estéreo Picnic festival in Bogotá, turned into a candlelit video. The band didn’t perform again until May 2023, aside from tribute shows to Taylor.

However, at the end of 2022, they released a statement via Instagram, white concluded: “We Know that when we see you again – and we will soon – he’ll be there in spirit with all of us every night,” after explaining they’d be a ‘different band’ going forward.

A month later, frontman Dave Grohl shared a handwritten note on the platform, thanking fans for “being there for them” during their difficult return to the stage.

“Every night, when I see you singing, it makes me sing harder. When I see you screaming, it makes me scream louder. When I see your tears, it brings me to tears,” wrote the former Nirvana member.

“And when I see your joy, it brings me joy. But, I see you… and it feels good to see you, churning up these emotions together. Because we’ve always done this together. Time and time again. See you soon.”
