King of the Cup back in Diss for Good Friday – could you be the next champion?

King of the Cup – the world’s greatest single goal knockout competition, according to organisers – will return to Diss on Good Friday.

Football fans young and old will pack out Rectory Meadow for the popular fundraiser, which has raised thousands of pounds for good causes over the years.

An adult competition will be held alongside two junior contests, one for primary school children and another for high school entrants.

The King of the Cup committee said the beauty of the annual showcase was in its simplicity.

“The whole tournament is built on when we were kids 30 years ago,” they said.

“We would play football after school using jumpers for goalposts.”

Money raised from this year’s event will go towards sponsoring a local youth football team for next season.

“We want to put 100 per cent of the money, which will hopefully be around £500 or £600, back into grassroots football. That is what King of the Cup is all about.”

The cricket club’s bar will run during the day, with a hog roast and ice creams on offer.

Entry to King of the Cup is £10 for adults, with juniors free. The fun starts at 11am.
