Craig Hope responds when given 20 seconds to say whether Eddie Howe will be Newcastle manager next season

Eddie Howe is now coming under a lot of pressure as Newcastle United manager with questions being raised about his future.

After a disappointing defeat to Chelsea in the league followed up with an FA Cup exit against Man City, Newcastle find themselves out of all competitions and at risk of being in the bottom half.

Speaking to Sky Sports, journalist Craig Hope has given his honest thoughts on whether or not Howe will still be here next season and if he’s the right man for the job.

Howe has lots of work to do at Newcastle

After qualifying for the Champions League last season, it was as if Howe could do no wrong in the eyes of the Newcastle supporters, but fast forward nine months and things are now vastly different.

It’s not that the fanbase have turned on him at all, but for the first time during his reign as manager questions are starting to be asked about some of his decisions, especially his team selection.

Of course, he can’t be judged solely on how the team have underperformed this season, there are so many other factors that have impacted his squad like the unexpected number of injuries and fatigue that set in in December.

Even still now, Newcastle are missing absolutely key players like Joelinton, Sandro Tonali, Callum Wilson and more recently Kieran Trippier and Harvey Barnes.

When asked if Howe was the right man for the job, Hope said: “Yes, absolutely. Eddie’s the right man for the job he’s got the support of the owners. It’s been a bruising, difficult season but he’s got their support.

“He’s got the support of the fans, the press up here as well we sit down with him every week, Eddie’s the real deal he’s OK.”

Newcastle preparing for life after Howe

Although it does sound like Newcastle have complete faith in Howe to turn things around even slight before the end of the season, there have been a number of rumours linking other managers to the job.

The obvious one has been Jose Mourinho who has been linked several times with his admiration for the clubs due to his links with Sir Bobby Robson very well known, although he does look to be past his best.

Other big names included the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Roberto Mancini, Ruben Amorim and more recently Barcelona man Xavi who is going to be available at the end of the season.

It certainly doesn’t mean that Howe is guaranteed to get the sack, but it’s interesting to hear if others are still on Newcastle’s radar.
