Newark Mayor Pamela Ball announces resignation on Newark Town Council

Newark mayor announces resignation before the new electoral period this May.

Pamela Ball submitted her resignation as mayor councillor following serious health issues and a long stay at the hospital.

Being involved in the council since her election in May 2023, Pamela will now focus fully on her recovery.

Mayor of Newark, Pamela Ball.

Deputy Mayor councillor Diane Ledger will fulfil any mayoral duties until a new mayor is appointed this May.

An election is due to take place on May 2, for the vacant seat in the Magnus Ward left following the resignation.

Leader of the Council, Neil Ross, said "Pamela has for many years been an active campaigner for the environment and for young people.

“As a Councillor and Mayor she has supported causes as diverse as our armed forces and veterans, our parks, our market, our schools, our hospice and mental health services, to name just a few.

“She has served the Town with pride, and made it her mission to spread joy and positivity. She is valued and respected by all her colleagues and by people throughout this community.

“We all wish her well on her road to recovery. She knows that she will always be surrounded by friendship in this town."

As a mayor, Pamela attended a huge number of events and engagements in her role as mayor, offering support to several local organisations.

She has been instrumental in helping shape the Sherwood Avenue play park project and visiting The Mount School to listen to ideas from the children and their wishes for investment into the park.

Pam has been actively raising funds during her time as Mayor for her chosen charities — Beaumond House, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and Mencap.

Those fundraising efforts will continue until the end of the civic year in May.
