Leverkusen handed major Europa League quarter-final boost, West Ham could be in trouble

West Ham United are set to take on Bayer Leverkusen in the quarter-finals of the Europa League next month.

The Europa League tie between West Ham and Bayer Leverkusen should be an absolute cracker, but the Bundesliga side are strong favourites to progress through to the semi-finals of the competition.

That said, David Moyes and his Hammers players will have faith that they can turn the Germans over, and I actually believe that we have a far better chance of beating Xabi Alonso’s side than a lot of journalists and pundits do.

West Ham are currently sitting in seventh spot in the Premier League table and despite some really poor performances this season, we have proven that on our day we’re a good match for any side.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen are the runaway leaders in the Bundesliga, currently holding a 10 point lead over second placed Bayern Munich.

Whatever happens, it is a mouth watering tie to look forward to. It will obviously be a tough two-legged tie for us to navigate and I fully expect us to be put through the wars out in Germany and at the London Stadium. That’s not to say that we can’t progress through to the semi-finals though.

However, we may well have our work cut out even more now after the latest breaking news…

Bayer Leverkusen boost ahead of West Ham Europa League quarter-final

The Hammers head out to Germany for the first-leg against Leverkusen at Bay Arena on Thursday April 11th, before we welcome them to the London Stadium a week later.

Any kind of positive result against the Bundesliga side would be more than acceptable for West Ham – I’d take a draw all day long!

It seems as though the German side have just been handed a truly major boost ahead of the Europa League clash though…

According to Soccernet Nigeria, Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has just returned to full training having not played a game since December.

The Hammers need to be very afraid of the 23-year-old hitman. We all know about Boniface – Moyes apparently wants to bring him to the London Stadium.

He has bagged a really impressive 16 goals and eight assists in 23 games for Bayer Leverkusen this season (Transfermarkt).

Boniface is an absolute powerhouse of a centre-forward, and the Hammers defenders will not be relishing playing against him one little bit.

Having the Nigerian hitman back and available for selection will be a major boost for Bayer Leverkusen ahead of their two-legged Europa League quarter-final clash with West Ham next month.
