The Newark committee won the award for fundraising in the community thanks to their unwavering support for the charity for over 66 years, over which time they have raised £950,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Roger Pykett, chairman of the committee, said: “The Newark committee are absolutely thrilled with the recognition of their efforts past and present.”

Over the years, the committee has organised a wide variety of fundraising events including summer luncheons, race nights, music evenings and most recently a spring lunch held at Newark Showground.

Rebecca Elphick, relationship manager for Cancer Research UK, said: “On behalf of the charity I would thank to thank all the members of the Newark local committee, both past and present, for their dedication and commitment to the charity.

“It is amazing to think about how much they have raised and how this will have helped to save lives over the past 66 years. Cancer Research UK’s vision is to bring about a world where everyone can lead longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer and it is thanks to people, like the Newark local committee, that together we are beating cancer.”
