Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly held talks over signing a Serie A midfielder this summer.
Ange Postecoglou looks set to bolster his options in the middle of the park after missing out on a midfielder in January.
Spurs were heavily linked with a swoop for Chelsea star Conor Gallagher during the last transfer window, but a move failed to materialise.
Despite reports that Chelsea are actively trying to sell Gallagher ahead of the summer, an alternative option for Tottenham has emerged in recent weeks.
Indeed, it’s been claimed that Spurs are increasingly likely to move for Atalanta’s Ederson.
Now, Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge has shared the latest on the North London club’s plans to sign a new midfielder.
Tottenham have held talks over Ederson move
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Bridge claimed that Ederson is a name ‘in discussion’ at Tottenham,
“Ederson’s a name who’s been in discussion at Tottenham,” the journalist said. “I think it’s an area where Spurs will consider adding a genuine No. 6.
“You see some of their midfielders pushing forward a lot more. They’ve got Bissouma, who is quite inconsistent at times. He’s a very, very, very good player on his day, but then maybe he has the odd injury and the odd sending-off, and it takes him quite a while to adapt.
“Of course, you’ve got Bentancur’s injury situation. He’s back but hasn’t hit the heights we know he can do yet. So, that area is something they will look at again in the summer.”
Spurs to raid Serie A for Atalanta’s Ederson?
Tottenham have made a habit of picking up talented players from Italy over the past few years.
We’ve already seen the likes of Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski, Guglielmo Vicario and Destiny Udogie all make a huge impact in north London.
Of course, Romero arrived from Atalanta back in the summer of 2021 and Ederson seems to be their latest target from the Italian outfit.
The Brazilian has been labelled a ‘complete’ midfield player after an impressive campaign in Serie A. At 23, Ederson has netted six times and provided one assist in 26 appearances this season.
Tottenham are lacking a player who is able to dictate the pace of the game from the base of midfield, as well as protect the back four.
Ederson would certainly fit the bill and could be available for around £30 million. But they could face competition from their bitter rivals Arsenal.
