Report: Mauricio Pochettino has identified £52m player as a key Chelsea target this summer, talks now underway

Mauricio Pochettino has already picked out one signing that he wants Chelsea to make in the summer. In fact, the Blues are reportedly already in talks to sign this new primary target.

There’s been speculation in the media about Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino losing his job before next season, but there’s fresh claims this week suggesting he’s having his say in a transfer conversation.

The Guardian claimed earlier in March that Chelsea plan to wait until this summer before reviewing Pochettino’s position in the dugout.

Now, the Blues manager may be leading them to a transfer target.

RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo, who’s aged 25, is on Chelsea’s wish-list for the summer.

FootballTransfers claims that Chelsea have now opened discussions with German club Leipzig about a possible move for Olmo in the upcoming transfer window.

It is understood that the Blues plan to move on Conor Gallagher and Raheem Sterling at the end of the season, so they’re seeking out potential replacements.

The report adds that sources close to the situation indicate that Chelsea are looking at Olmo as their ‘priority target’. In fact, there’s discussions underway as the west London club has contacted Leipzig about the 25-year-old playmaker.

Also, the report claims that Chelsea’s Pochettino has identified the Bundesliga star as the ‘key target’ this summer.

Versatile Dani Olmo is an exciting Chelsea target

Leipzig is a quality attacker that can play in wide or central attacking positions to great effect, so we certainly don’t mind his name popping up alongside Chelsea in rumours. It’s not the first time he’s linked with a potential switch to Stamford Bridge, though.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed via Substack back in November that he thinks Olmo could leave Leipzig at the end of this current season. Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo reported Chelsea are one side who are interested in Olmo, who’s got a €60m (£52m) release clause.

The Spain international, who’s skilful, superb with both feet, and a huge goal threat, looks like an intriguing Chelsea target.

Now Pochettino has given his thumbs up, it’ll be interesting to see this story develop.
