6 movies you need to watch before they leave Netflix in April

A handful of movies are leaving Netflix at the end of the week, and here are my picks for great ones you shouldn’t miss.

If your Netflix watchlist is anything like mine, some movies have been on there for an eternity and you still haven’t gotten around to watching them. That’s why it helps to keep track of films set to leave the platform soon, so that you can prioritize them over titles that are sticking around far longer. The below are six great movies that are all leaving at the very beginning of April, so the last day to check them out, and you should, is on Sunday, March 31st 2024.

The Batman

Have you checked out the trailer for the upcoming Batman spin-off The Penguin? It looks great, teasing a reprisal of the iconic villain from Colin Farrell.

He was introduced in Matt Reeves’s epic 2022 blockbuster The Batman, which debuted Robert Pattinson as the titular caped crusader, this time up against Paul Dano’s take on The Riddler.

I think it’s one of the best comic book movies ever made, and with the upcoming HBO TV series set to expand upon this new incarnation of Gotham City, it’s worth checking out or revisiting this bold new chapter before it vanishes from Netflix.

Man Of Steel

Speaking of superheroes, is there any beacon of hope quite so bright as Superman? No, but Zack Snyder’s first installment in the DCEU with 2013’s Man Of Steel shared a slightly darker and more complex take on the character and his beginnings.

Henry Cavill was born to play Superman, he’s amazing in the role, and every great superhero performance needs a great villain—Michael Shannon rises to the occasion as General Zod.

In reflection, it’s one of the best films the now-concluded DCEU gave us, and with James Gunn’s Superman set to launch a new DCU, it’s intriguing to go back and see how the predecessor started.

Neighbors

One of the funniest comedies of the 2010s, Neighbors stars Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen as new first-time parents terrorized by a hectic fraternity next door, led by the charismatic Zac Efron as Teddy.

The entire cast does great, but it’s those three main performances that make Neighbors a total joy to revisit again and again. It’s become a bit of a comfort movie for lots of people over the years, and if it’s one of yours, don’t miss one last rewatch on Netflix.

Pacific Rim

The Academy Award-winning Guillermo del Toro has amazed with efforts from Pan’s Labyrinth to The Shape Of Water, but the biggest movie of his career was the gargantuan sci-fi action epic Pacific Rim.

Set in a near-future where colossal sea creatures known as Kaiju have emerged from the ocean, humanity hits back by crafting Jaegers, huge mech suits piloted by humans so they can level the playing field and fight.

Delivering insane spectacle and unforgettable creature designs, it’s an exhilarating blockbuster that’s just as enjoyable on the small screen as it is on the big.

The Raid: Redemption

You have a bit longer for this one, with the last day to watch being Tuesday, April 2nd 2024, which is just as well because if there’s any movie on this list you desperately need to see, it’s Gareth Evans’ Indonesian martial arts masterpiece.

Over a lean 101-minute runtime, accompany a National Police tactical squad as they raid an apartment block taken over by a notorious drug lord. Hellbent on thwarting their efforts on every floor, highly skilled fighters take on the police in some of the most breathless and expertly choreographed fight sequences you’ll ever see.

If you’re a fan of the John Wick franchise, this will leave you blown away.

The Suicide Squad

The 2016 antihero movie Suicide Squad ended up being one of the biggest cinematic disappointments of that year, but when James Gunn stepped in to make his own, he knocked it out of the park.

Bringing back Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, he assembles a new cast that includes such highlights as John Cena’s Peacemaker and Idris Elba‘s Bloodsport.

It’s better than its predecessor in every single way, standing out as one of the genre’s most zany and fun offerings in years.

Other movies leaving include Elysium, John Wick: Chapter 2, The Monuments Men, Shazam, Shazam: Fury Of The Gods, Black Adam, Wonder Woman, and Bruce Almighty. So, you’ve got some serious streaming to do this week.
