Report: Club are now very scared of losing out on 'special' 25-year-old player to Arsenal

Mikel Arteta and Edu appear to be focusing on reinforcements for the central midfield department at Arsenal this summer.

There are doubts over Jorginho’s future at the Emirates Stadium as the Italy international’s contract expires this summer.

Furthermore, Thomas Partey is another who could depart Arsenal this summer, with Real Sociedad keen to sign the Ghana international.

Now – judging by reports from Italy – Mikel Arteta and Edu are in a strong position to bring a new midfielder to Arsenal

Arsenal worrying other clubs in Martin Zubimendi battle

Well, Arsenal are keen to sign Real Sociedad No.4 Martin Zubimendi.

A story from Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Juventus are also interested in the Spain international.

However, the Italian giants are said to be very wary of Arsenal’s presence in this transfer battle, with the Serie A outfit sounding doubtful about their chances of fending off the Gunners.

That is a justified concern – Premier League sides are far more powerful financially in comparison to Serie A clubs, while Zubimendi may also be tempted by the prospect of playing under a fellow Spaniard in Arteta.

The man from San Sebastián has made 42 appearances in all competitions for Real Sociedad this season, scoring four goals while also providing one assist.

Spaniard is a long-term target

We really would not be surprised whatsoever if Arsenal sign Zubimendi this summer, as the Spaniard appears to be a long-term target for the Gunners based on reports.

Arteta and Edu expressed a desire to buy the 25-year-old back in January 2023 as Arsenal tried to sign a new central midfielder and also Mykhailo Mudryk.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal were even willing to trigger Zubimendi’s €60m (£51m) release clause, but he decided to stay with Real Sociedad and the Gunners eventually moved on to Jorginho.

Now – however – the north Londoners could be better placed to finally sign the “special” midfielder this summer, as Juventus become worried by Arsenal’s presence.
