24-year-old speaks out after hearing Tottenham are showing an interest in him

Tottenham Hotspur have now seen one of their reported summer targets speak out about their interest in him.

The summer transfer rumours are already starting to emerge despite Spurs having 10 more games to play in the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou’s side could well find themselves playing Champions League football next term, but it seems on target is not too fussed on the links to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

What Morten Hjulmand has said about links to Spurs

According to reports, Spurs are one of the clubs who are showing an interest in the Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand.

It is even said the Lilywhites have been out to Lisbon to watch the 24-year-old in action.

However, it seems there may not be a mutual interest ahead of the summer transfer window following the Dane’s latest comments.

He said: “I don’t really care that much about it. I’m focusing on a very, very long season right now with Sporting, where we have many matches. There’s still a long way to go. We have an ambition that we set out before the season started, and we want to fulfil it.”

“There are so many rumours in international football that it’s hard to make sense of it all. So, to be honest, it’s not something I spend time on.”

“If I did, I could spend hours and hours speculating. But it’s not something I spend time on. I spend time on my daily life at Sporting and optimising myself there as a player.”

What will be interesting to see is if Spurs continue to look at Hjulmand as an option with one of his compatriots, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, set to leave in the coming months.

What was said about Hojbjerg’s recent display for Denmark

The current Dane at Tottenham has had a season to forget after becoming a squad option since Postecoglou’s arrival.

With one year remaining on his current deal with the Lilywhites, he looks set to leave the club over the coming months.

And it seems he is also failing to impress during this latest international break after what the Danish media said about him last week.

Denmark were only able to see out a draw against Switzerland on the weekend and Hojbjerg’s display was slammed by Sport.TV2.

“A player who needs to play a lot,” they wrote. “And he doesn’t do that at Tottenham. Set out with several possessions, but as time went on he became too impatient and forced his game too much. A messy effort,” they wrote as they handed him a 3/10 rating.

Hojbjerg has been a super servant for the club over the years and Spurs have got a lot out of him over his time at the club.

Having signed from Southampton for a fee in the region of £15m, he has more than proven a valuable option for the club.

But it is apparent that opportunities are just not there for him to play in north London under Postecoglou.

It will be interesting to see just how much Spurs can bring in for him this summer.
