For the fifth day in a row, the debris removal after the Russian attack continues at the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP). Experts are assessing the condition of the equipment, reports Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Hrynchuk on Radio Liberty.
"As for the damage to the Dnipro HPP - today, the removal of debris is still ongoing, and the assessment of the equipment's condition is ongoing. If the equipment requires repair and can be quickly repaired - we do that. If the equipment has significant damage, we are looking for replacements and will try to repair it as quickly as possible," she said.
The deputy minister emphasized that energy is the main target for the enemy, so Ukrainians must be ready for different scenarios.
Hrynchuk added that energy workers are doing everything possible to protect facilities and restore damaged ones, but there is a need to strengthen air defense.
Massive attack on March 22
On the night of March 22, aggressors launched a massive attack on Ukraine with more than 150 drones and missiles. Air defense forces shot down 55 Іhahed drones and 37 missiles.
The energy sector was under attack. The Russian forces attacked the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant. The situation was particularly severe in Kharkiv. The city was left without electricity, there were problems with the Internet and water, and electric transport was out of service.
Ukrenergo, a Ukrainian national power company, said that it was the largest attack on the energy sector since the beginning of the war. Emergency shutdowns were implemented in seven regions.
