'Different class': Ally McCoist seriously impressed by £55m Man City player's display for his country

Ally McCoist was full of praise for one Manchester City player after his performance for his country on Tuesday night.

The international break has now come to an end following Tuesday’s fixtures and it’s been a costly one for Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola will already be sweating on the fitness levels of Kevin De Bruyne, Ederson and Jack Grealish ahead of Sunday’s massive matchup with Arsenal and now has four more concerns.

John Stones became the latest casualty after he hobbled off the field during England’s draw with Belgium on Tuesday night.

Stones followed in the footsteps of teammate Kyle Walker, who lasted just 20 minutes against Brazil on Saturday before he had to go off, too.

Elsewhere, Matheus Nunes missed Portugal’s defeat to Slovenia while Manuel Akanji sat out Switzerland’s win over the Republic of Ireland with knocks.

City’s injury crisis is deepening but there was good news, at least, with Jeremy Doku putting in a strong performance against England, which left Ally McCoist impressed.

Ally McCoist praises Jeremy Doku

Speaking on TalkSPORT, McCoist said: “He was different class last night, Doku.”

Co-host Andy Townsend echoed those thoughts and said: “He looked dangerous!”

City need Jeremy Doku to step up

City’s meeting with Arsenal on Sunday might be even bigger than the recent face-off against Liverpool.

A win won’t necessarily put the Blues top, with Liverpool to play earlier on Sunday, but it would see them leapfrog Arsenal and gain great momentum going into the final stretch.

City haven’t lost in 22 matches now and it would be an awful time to break that streak, as a defeat could knock them out of the race.

With so many players doubtful for the game, those who are fit will need to perform at their best and that includes Doku.

The £55m man hasn’t scored or set a goal up in the Premier League since November and that needs to change. Doku needs to step it up.
