Cops break up fight between 2 teens and their moms at N.J. high school

Two parents were charged following a fight at a South Jersey high school that prompted a response from school staff and local police, according to a news release.

Gloucester Township police on Wednesday said the parents and their two children began fighting inside a vestibule at Highland Regional High School in Blackwood around the time of dismissal on March 20.

The parents - Brianne Mitchell, 41, and Krystal Turner, 39 - were each charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement, police said. Mitchell was also charged with both aggravated and simple assault. Turner was additionally charged with disorderly conduct.

Both parents and an officer suffered minor injuries, police said. Mitchell threw a small garden planter pot, striking the officer and Turner, while Turner scratched the officer.

Police said one of the teens suddenly assaulted the other, instigating a melee between Mitchell and Turner that grew into a fight between the four. Gloucester Township’s school resource officer was called to the school’s front entrance around 1:29 p.m., police said.

Police did not say what provoked the one teenager to unexpectedly attack the other. Mitchell, Turner and the officer were treated by medical personnel at the scene for their injuries, police said.

High School staff immediately enforced security procedures to gain control over the fight, which was contained by the resource officer and school staff before other police arrived.

The teens and adults were contained to the entrance and had no access to students inside the building, police said.

Highland is part of the Black Horse Pike Regional School District, which did not immediately return a request by NJ Advance Media for comment.

Attorney information for both parents was not immediately available Wednesday.

Charges against the teens are pending, police said.
