Woman used her sister’s nursing ID to steal oxy, police say

Two Atlantic County sisters were charged in connection with the theft of oxycodone from a skilled nursing facility, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday.

Deborah Baskerville, 38, of Galloway, used her sister’s identity and nursing license to work a shift at Complete Care in Shrewsbury on Oct. 31, 2023, according to a news release. While working the shift, she took 10 oxycodone pills from a locked medicine cart and replaced them with allergy pills.

Baskerville’s sister, Shonte Hall, 36, of Egg Harbor City, provided her with the license and ID, according to the prosecutor’s office. Baskerville may have also stolen pills from other medical facilities in New Jersey as Hall worked for a nursing company that outsources its services as needed, authorities said.

Baskerville was charged with impersonation under a false identity, unlicensed practice of medicine under a false identity, theft by deception and theft of a controlled dangerous substance, all third-degree charges, and fourth-degree unlicensed practice of medicine, officials said.

Hall was charged with conspiracy to commit theft by deception and conspiracy to commit unlicensed practice of medicine, both fourth-degree crimes.

Baskerville turned herself in to authorities in early February, followed by Hall several weeks later. Both were released pending future court appearances, authorities said.

Anyone with additional information about the thefts can contact Shrewsbury police Det. Sgt. Daniel DeCristofaro at 732-741-2500, ext. 230.
