Big Kalvin Phillips twist will leave the West Ham fans totally bemused

West Ham United on loan midfielder Kalvin Phillips was left out of the most recent England squad, but there has seemingly been a big twist.

Kalvin Phillips – a 31-capped England international joined West Ham from Manchester City on loan in the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old was brought to the London Stadium by David Moyes in order to provide some competition and cover for Edson Alvarez.

However, things have not gone well at all for Phillips, and a recent report claimed that Moyes will not push to sign him permanently from Man City in the summer.

Things then went from bad to worse for Kalvin when Gareth Southgate left him out of his latest England squad for the games against Brazil and Belgium.

We all know that Phillips is a great player on his day, but his lack of football over the past 20 months has clearly now caught up with him.

However, it seems as though there has been a big twist surrounding his current situation…

Big Kalvin Phillips England twist

The Man City owned midfielder has been so far off the pace whenever he’s played for the Hammers this season.

If I’m being honest, he looks nowhere near fit enough, and his confidence is quite clearly at rock bottom right now.

However, it seems like he has received a really timely boost.

That’s because ESPN are reporting that Gareth Southgate is desperate to include Phillips in the England squad, but he just couldn’t justify doing it this month.

And what’s more, the former Leeds man now has a really good chance to impress the Three Lions boss, with Edson Alvarez suspended for three of our next four games in all competitions.

Kalvin Phillips can really lay down a marker to the England manager now, if he puts in a string of strong performances for West Ham.

The Hammers fans will be perplexed that Southgate is so keen to include Phillips in his squad – he has been so, so poor for us since moving to the London Stadium in January.

However, things could all change over the next month, with the games coming thick and fast.

As mentioned earlier, he certainly has the quality. It’s now time for him to show the West Ham fans what he’s made of.
