Report: Why Newcastle's British owners are so adamant about keeping Eddie Howe as manager

The Newcastle United owners believe they have struck gold with Eddie Howe.

They have every reason to believe that given what Eddie Howe has achieved at St James’ Park since becoming Newcastle United manager in November 2021.

It started with survival, then last season was when Howe really started to flex his muscles as Toon boss. He got the Magpies to a Wembley final that sadly ended in defeat, then he followed that up with qualification for the Champions League.

That was a remarkable achievement, and one that Howe deserves all the credit in the world for.

This season has not gone to plan for Eddie Howe and Newcastle United

However, this season has been tougher. Newcastle are not going to qualify for the Champions League again, while they are not involved in any finals. Both cup journeys ended at the quarter final stage, while Newcastle have 10 games to ensure they qualify for either the Europa or Conference League. It is still a possibility, but missing out would be a major blow.

Regardless of what happens, it sounds like Howe is going to remain as Newcastle United manager. That is excellent, as he deserves the opportunity to continue leading this project.

Why Newcastle’s owners want to keep Eddie Howe as manager

And a new report from Sky Sports has explained why the British owners of Newcastle United are so adamant that Howe should continue as Toon manager, no matter what happens.

They report that the British owners see Howe as a ‘gem’, and believe it would be a major mistake to get rid of him while the PIF project is still ongoing.

The unknown factor is what PIF thinks, with no strong word on how officials in Saudi Arabia feel about Howe and the job he has done this season. Although Geordie Boot Boys was recently told that they were doing their due diligence over other managers – which would be a sensible thing to do even if Newcastle were top of the league.

Howe is not to blame for Newcastle’s tough season

This season has not gone to plan, but there are a lot of factors as to why, most of which are out of Howe’s control. He has enough credit in the bank to continue in this role, and he is certainly the right man for the job in the eyes of most supporters.

While the likes of Jose Mourinho continue to be touted as the next Newcastle United manager, the immediate future of the club will see Eddie Howe calling the shots – and rightly so.
