France will help Brazil develop a nuclear power plant for future Brazilian submarines, ensuring compliance with non-proliferation commitments, according to rfi.
French President Emmanuel Macron visited Brazil on March 27. He met with President Lula da Silva, whom he promised France's assistance in creating a power plant for submarines.
A power plant is an energy complex designed to generate mechanical energy. It consists of a propulsion system and auxiliary equipment.
"I hope that we will open a chapter for new submarines (...), that we will see a nuclear engine, fully respecting all the strictest non-proliferation commitments," Macron said.
"If you want it, France will be on your side," he added.
The Bloomberg agency, announcing Macron's visit to Brazil, reported that the French president plans to try to persuade Lula da Silva to take a certain position regarding Russia's war against Ukraine.
Lula has so far sought to position his country as neutral, able to maintain ties with both Russia and Ukraine.
