Report: Man United think Marcus Rashford will become 'world class' again if 53-year-old becomes next manager

Marcus Rashford has had a disappointing season at Manchester United.

The Englishman, on his day, has the ability to single-handedly win games for club and country. He showed that at Manchester United last season.

However, his performances this time around haven’t been great. He has come under a ton of criticism as a result, and his manager, Erik ten Hag, hasn’t been spared either.

The Dutchman’s future is up in the air, and it has now been claimed that Manchester United are looking at a manager who they think will bring the best out of Rashford again.

The manager Manchester United think will make Marcus Rashford ‘world-class’

There has been a lot of speculation regarding Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United.

The Dutchman has done some good things at Old Trafford, but his side are worse off this season than they were at the same stage last time.

The Red Devils are also unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next term, which is another factor that could cost Ten Hag his job.

One manager who has been heavily linked with the Manchester United hot seat is England boss Gareth Southgate. The 53-year-old has emerged as a surprise candidate at Old Trafford.

The Sun reveal that the new decision-makers at Manchester United rate Southgate highly, and they even think he could bring the best out of Marcus Rashford again.

An unnamed source told the outlet: “The club also thinks Gareth has shown in his job with England that he can handle big characters and big personalities, so he wouldn’t be phased by managing at a club like United.

“One of the biggest draws for United is that Southgate would immediately have the support of the spine of English players running through the club – Maguire, Shaw, Mainoo and Rashford, which would give him a solid base from which to build.

“They think Southgate could turn Rashford back into the world-class talent everyone at the club believes him to be.”

Alarming Gareth Southgate stat that should concern Manchester United fans

Manchester United fans are far from convinced about Gareth Southgate becoming their next manager, and they have good reason to doubt him.

Yes, the 53-year-old has led England to the final of the Euros and the semi-final of the World Cup, which are excellent achievements. But, he has his flaws as well.

One really alarming statistic about Southgate is that in 24 games against FIFA’s top 10 ranked clubs over the years as England manager, his side have won just seven times. That’s a win rate of just over 29 per cent, which is shocking.

Manchester United may have their reasons to think Southgate is a good shout to become their next manager, but we’re sure the above statistic will ring alarm bells in fans’ heads.
