Hoffenheim midfieloder Grischa Prömel is set to return from injury into the squad for Saturday's Bundesliga match at leaders Bayer Leverkusen, coach Pellegrino Matarazzo has said.

Prömel was sidelined for six weeks with a knee ligament injury but Matarazzo said on Thursday that he should be back in the squad now.

Hoffenheim are eighth in the Bundesliga and bidding for a place in Europe for which seventh place would be needed.

But they face a tough task in Leverkusen who have not lost in their 38 season games in all competitions and are 10 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

Prömel's injury also denied him another Germany call-up after he was a non playing squad member in November friendlies against Turkey and Austria. He missed the recent wins over France and the Netherlands and could find it hard returning for the Euro 2024 squad.

Team-mate Maximilian Beier could stand a better chance to be at the home Euros even though he also got no playing time in his first call-up against France and the Dutch.

"Maxi doesn't give the impression that he's disappointed. He is beaming with happiness. It's still a huge success for him," Matarazzo said.
