UEFA officially finalise major competition with 8 Rangers players potentially set to benefit

As the groups for Euro 2024 are officially finalised, there’s plenty of Rangers stars who will have their eye on a ticket to Germany.

The Gers have a squad with several internationals and it’s nailed on there will at least be a few Rangers stars turning out the European Championships.

But by our count there could be as many as EIGHT Rangers players who will have an eye on Euro 2024 after the tournament’s qualification was concluded in the international break.

With Georgia, Ukraine, and Poland winning their respective playoffs, here are the Rangers players who’re in with a shout of making an impact on this summer’s festival of European football.

Which Rangers stars could go to Euro 2024?

Robby McCrorie (Scotland)

Earlier in the season, Scotland manager Steve Clarke warned Robby McCrorie that a lack of Rangers minutes would hamper his chances of becoming number one at Hampden. In the latest Scotland squad, the national side had four goalkeepers, none of which were the Rangers Academy graduate. A talented goalkeeper kept out of the side by Jack Butland, minutes will be hard to come by this season no matter what Philippe Clement says. Angus Gunn, Zander Clark, Liam Kelly, and Craig Gordon will remain in front of the 26-year-old so long as opportunities at Rangers remain limited so a Robby McCrorie place at Euro 2024 looks very unlikely as it stands.

  • Group A – Germany, Scotland, Hungary & Switzerland
  • Scotland record – 0 caps, several squad call-ups
  • Euro 2024 chances – 2/10

John Souttar (Scotland)

John Souttar has emerged as a key player for Rangers in recent months and looks to be emerging as Connor Goldson’s first-choice defensive partner. In a promising career interrupted by a series of injury problems, there’s increasing confidence that the worst is over for the 27-year-old. There is substantial competition at national team level but John Souttar is considered amongst Scotland’s best options. Performances for Rangers might dictate a place for the defender, who earned his ninth cap for the country coming off the bench v the Netherlands.

  • Group A – Germany, Scotland, Hungary & Switzerland
  • Scotland record – 9 caps, 1 goal
  • Euro 2024 chances – 8/10

Ryan Jack (Scotland)

Ryan Jack wasn’t called up for the latest Scotland squad after sustaining an injury in November’s internationals which has interrupted his season. At 31-years-old Jacko will have an eye on making the squad having missed Euro 2020 through – yes you guessed it – injury. With no international breaks between now and the end of the season, Ryan Jack can only force his way back into Steve Clarke’s competitive midfield plans by performing for Philippe Clement’s treble-chasing Rangers. But will doing so be enough to also earn him a contract at Ibrox?

  • Group A – Germany, Scotland, Hungary & Switzerland
  • Scotland record – 18 caps
  • Euro 2024 chances – 6/10

Borna Barisic (Croatia)

Borna Barisic looks set to be leave Rangers in the summer with reports surrounding a move to Turkey gathering pace by the week. Trabzonspor appears to be the Rangers left-back’s next destination as a six year love affair with the Ibrox side prepares to come to an end. An established Croatian international, Borna Barisic has found himself out of the Croatia team since being dropped in November. Nothing is said and done just yet and if Borna can end his Rangers career on a high do not write a fighting return with Croatia either.

  • Group B – Spain, Croatia, Italy & Albania
  • Croatia record – 35 caps, 1 goal
  • Euro 2024 chances – 4/10

Jack Butland (England)

There was a moment leading up to this international break that Jack Butland looked like an England shoo-in. Reputable outlets had claimed the Rangers goalkeeper was set for a call-up whilst Gareth Southgate himself spoke openly about Butland’s stint in Glasgow. But having preferred Jordan Pickford (Everton), Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal), and Sam Johnstone (Palace) in the initial call-up, the decision to call-up James Trafford (Burnley) in place of Johnstone following a season-ending injury appears a final blow to Butland’s England hopes. But with that 3rd goalkeeping slot now up for grabs, Butland will be firmly in the conversation.

  • Group C – Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia, & England
  • England record – 9 caps
  • Euro 2024 chances – 5/10

Ianis Hagi (Romania)

When Ianis Hagi’s public appeals for playing time led to a summer loan switch to Alavés, you’ll forgive fans for believing his Rangers journey had come to an end. The talented Romanian playmaker has genuine star quality but after a cruciate ligament injury interrupted his career, re-finding his form has proven a complicated process. Now out of the Alavés team and firmly heading for a return to Rangers this coming summer, the attacking midfielder and son of Gheorghe Hagi is a shoo-in for a Romania call. Perhaps a big showing in Germany will be enough to either convince Rangers – or someone else – that the 25-year-old can still achieve his early potential.

  • Group E – Belgium, Slovakia, Romania, & Ukraine
  • Romania record – 33 caps, 5 goals
  • Euro 2024 chances – 9/10

Ridvan Yilmaz (Turkey)

Ridvan Yilmaz wasn’t initially called up for this international break but amid injuries, eventually got the Turkey call. We suspect Rangers probably wished that he hadn’t. Injured in an international friendly between Turkey and Hungary, it’s the latest in a long line of problems in the club’s medical department. With Borna Barisic potentially set to benefit, Ridvan Yilmaz might yet prove a huge miss for Rangers as fans nervously await his return. On form and improving by the game, we reckon Ridvan Yilmaz is in with a huge shout to go to Euro 2024 and the Rangers left-back could be a mainstay for the country in the years to come.

  • Group FTurkey, Georgia, Portugal, & Czechia
  • Turkey record – 7 caps
  • Euro 2024 chances – 8/10

Fabio Silva (Portugal)

Fabio Silva was once tipped to replace Cristiano Ronaldo in the Portugal frontline but the 21-year-old has so far found it difficult to break out of the nation’s U21s. The £35m Wolves forward is now on loan at Rangers and is impressing in the colours of the Ibrox side. The Portuguese are known for taking chances on their youngest talents and a good end to the season at Rangers might see a Fabio Silva promotion. Yet to be capped by the Portugal men’s first-team, Silva would be an almighty wild card but the striker’s record at youth level is certainly worth shouting about. In 20 Portugal U21 caps, the striker has 10 goals and everyone at the nation’s FA knows about his qualities.

  • Group F – Turkey, Georgia, Portugal, & Czechia
  • Portugal record – uncapped
  • Euro 2024 chances – 3/10
