Today, March 28, the NATO-Ukraine Council met at the ambassadorial level. The topic of discussion was Russia's shelling of Ukrainian critical infrastructure, according to the Mission of Ukraine to NATO.
The meeting was convened at the initiative of the Ukrainian side.
During the meeting, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov informed the allies about the consequences of Russia's terrorist attacks and the response measures taken by Ukraine.
The Minister also called on NATO member states to provide Ukraine with:
- additional air and missile defense systems;
- missiles for them.
Russian missile attacks on Ukrainian critical infrastructure
Russian troops strike Ukraine almost daily. The Russian occupiers are actively using Shahed drones and have recently been increasingly resorting to massive missile attacks on Ukraine.
For example, on the night of March 22, Russians launched a combined missile and air strike against Ukraine, using 151 air attack aircraft. During the attack, the Russians shelled Ukrainian energy facilities, which resulted in emergency blackouts in several cities. Russia also damaged an external air line to Zaporizhzhia NPP. In particular, the Dnipro hydroelectric power plant in Zaporizhzhia was hit.
The most difficult situation with electricity is in Kharkiv. According to Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo, it is expected that the restoration of the power supply will take up to two weeks.
