'Disgraceful': Gary Neville still can't believe Arsenal's owners haven't been punished for what they did

Gary Neville has now expressed his shock that those in the boardroom at Arsenal have not yet been punished for what they did back in 2021.

The 49-year-old made the comments when speaking on The Overlap.

Chatting alongside Jamie Carragher, the actions of Stan Kroenke and others at Arsenal are still playing on the mind of the Sky Sports pundit – which speaks volumes given how many of football’s issues he dissects on a weekly basis.

So, what did Arsenal once do that is still troubling Gary Neville even today? Let’s take a look…

Gary Neville wants Arsenal owners kicked out of the Premier League

Well, the topic of the Super League reared its ugly head on The Overlap – and the Manchester United legend still has some very strong feelings about the owners who signed their respective clubs up.

Not only Arsenal signed up for the Super League, but decision makers at Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea also agreed to leave the Premier League for the highly controversial project, which was quickly scrapped after fan protests.

Speaking about that period, Neville said: “I properly started to unload on the Glazer family post Super League. Once I recognised they were a danger to the actual game itself and wanted to do something like that, was when I fully unloaded on them.

“Honestly, those six owners who signed up to that Super League, that were willing to destroy the game in this country – and destroy the game around Europe as well by the way – they have been let off scot-free. It’s disgraceful that we’ve let them off scot-free. It really is, honestly. They got fined £3m each, unbelievable. They should be kicked out the league, the lot of them.”

Super League comments are spot on

Very strong, passionate comments – to say the least.

In truth, Neville is spot on.

That period of time almost beggared belief looking back on it, as England’s six biggest clubs at the time agreed to up sticks and join the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid in a vanity contest.

It is truly strange that the matter appears to have been swept under the carpet, although from Arsenal’s point of view, we can understand the relative silence about it nowadays.

Kroenke did appear to genuinely listen to the response, and with the help of his son – Josh Kroenke – Arsenal are now a force in English football once again.

Hopefully, a situation like the Super League never happens again, as there were genuine fears for the structure of English football amid that worrying period.
