'Rightly so': Lee Dixon says £51m Man City star is actually their key player in Arsenal clash - not De Bruyne

Lee Dixon has singled out one Manchester City player as their key man ahead of their upcoming showdown against Arsenal.

Several City players can be focused upon to emerge as the difference-makers for Sunday’s clash.

Kevin De Bruyne instantly springs to mind, as he tends to deliver against the Gunners and singled out his display in City’s 3-0 demolition job against them in the 2019/2020 season as his best-ever performance.

Ruben Dias is another superstar who might be named as he tends to put in rock-solid displays against Arsenal, such as in Manchester City’s 3-1 win at the Emirates Stadium last season.

Lee Dixon names the main Manchester City danger-man ahead of Arsenal showdown

Some might side with Phil Foden, who has stepped in particular for City this campaign and after having a quiet afternoon against Mikel Arteta’s side last time around, he would be willing to make a difference.

The list goes on.

But Lee Dixon named Erling Haaland as the danger-man for Manchester City ahead of their upcoming game against Arsenal.

“I always go, ‘Yeah, I get that because with the dominant midfield, you then create chances.’ But ultimately if you don’t put it in the net, then that’s where the hardest thing to do is to score. So, Haaland will be highlighted and quite rightly so. But he’s coming across the best defence in the league, with probably the best partnership that there is at the moment”, he said [via Squawka].

Dixon added, “So, that’s going to be fascinating, how he works them out because I think they play a certain way. And it’s about his interaction with them because he loves to get really tight on his centre-half and spin into the holes.”

“And [Kevin] De Bruyne is on the ball, and that ball will come. I think you’ve got to be clever against him. You’ve got to back off him a little bit, let him have it to feet and then go tight, and all of that. For me, that’s the fascinating thing about Haaland and the two centre-backs.”

How Erling Haaland will fare against William Saliba will be interesting

Not many would disagree with Lee Dixon over Manchester City striker Erling Haaland being the one to watch ahead of his side’s clash against Arsenal.

William Saliba’s dominance at the back is going to be one of how the visitors will try to tame the £51 million man at the Etihad Stadium.

The last time City and Arsenal faced each other, Saliba managed to keep Haaland quiet and remains his side’s best defender.

However, as Lee Dixon claimed, Erling Haaland arguably remains the biggest threat for Manchester City against Arsenal and previously, he has bullied another dominant centre-back like Gabriel Magalhaes.

If the £375,000-a-week (Sport Rac) man studies Saliba’s game carefully ahead of the match, there is no reason why he cannot afford him the same treatment on Sunday.
