Boat Race 2024: Meet the Cambridge University Boat Club’s women’s crew looking to continue their recent domination of Oxford

Cambridge University Boat Club’s women’s crew will be seeking an extraordinary seventh straight Gemini Boat Race victory on Saturday.

The majority of those wins have also been by convincing margins – and the aim will be to continue that trend on the River Thames this weekend.

Below are the eight athletes and cox that have been charged with the task of continuing Cambridge’s domination over their Oxford counterparts.

Bow: Gemma King (St John’s)

Studying a PhD in stem cell biology. First time in Blue boat after two reserve and two lightweight races

No 2: Jo Matthews (St John’s)

Studying BA Medicine. A two-time winner of the reserve race. Earning a Blue is a process that has been six years in the making

No 3: Iris Powell (Churchill)

Studying BA natural sciences. A former hockey player that won last year’s reserve race and also a gold medal at the BUCS 4+.

No 4: Jenna Armstrong (Jesus)

Studying a PhD in physiology. Part of last year’s winning crew and now the current crop’s president. Also helped Blondie to victory in 2022.

No 5: Carina Graf (Emmanuel Graf)

Studying a PhD in neuroscience. The German started rowing in 2018 and was part of last year’s winning boat. She was also in the reserve boat in 2022.

No 6: Carys Earl (Gonville and Caius)

Studying BA medicine. Started rowing at CUBC and helped Bondie to victory last year.

No 7: Clare Hole (St Catharine’s)

Studying MPhil in population health sciences. Following in footsteps of parents, both of whom were Blues. Has previously represented Great Britain in dressage.

Stroke: Megan Lee (Lucy Cavendish)

Studying MPhil management. Arrived at CUBC as an Under-23 world champion with the USA. Previously a competitive swimmer.

Cox: Hannah Martin (Girton)

Studying MPhil health. Has won ACC Championship in the Varsity 8+. Also named the ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year.
