'I am expecting': Chris Sutton predicts the score for Chelsea vs Burnley in the Premier League this Saturday

Chelsea welcome Burnley to Stamford Bridge this weekend as Premier League football makes its return after the international break.

It’s been a while since the Blues were in league action, so it’s worth flagging that we’re still in a place where we can salvage some pride this season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are 11th in the division table right now. However, we could actually jump up to as high as seventh if we win games in hand.

Chelsea have collected two wins and two draws from their previous four Premier League matches. It’s going to take that and much more until the end of the season to save the year.

Let’s hope the Blues start this period with a victory at home to Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

Chris Sutton prediction

BBC pundit Chris Sutton has released today his regular batch of pre-match predictions for the upcoming league fixtures in the top division.

He’s gone with a comfortable Chelsea home win over relegation candidates Burnley.

“I really cannot win with Burnley, who beat Brentford at Turf Moor last time out after I had given up on them ever getting anything at home,” Sutton told BBC Sport.

“I don’t seem to do much better with Chelsea, whose inconsistency for most of this season has made predicting their results very difficult, but I am pretty confident I will be right about them this time.

“Recent results for Mauricio Pochettino’s side have actually been a lot more steady and, with the FA Cup semi-finals to come, they can still finish a disappointing season on a positive note.

“Chelsea were too strong for Burnley earlier in the season, and I am expecting the same story at Stamford Bridge.

“Sutton’s prediction: 2-0.”

Chelsea vs Burnley head-to-head

Chelsea thrashed Burnley by a 4-1 scoreline during the reverse fixture at Turf Moor back in October earlier in the season.

In fairness, it’s been a fairly one-sided rivalry between the clubs in recent years.

From the previous 10 meetings in the Premier League, Chelsea have eight wins over Burnley and there’s been two draws.

The Clarets haven’t beaten the Blues since a 3-2 victory at Stamford Bridge back in 2017.

Chelsea have four wins from four against last year’s promoted sides, winning against Burnley, Luton Town (twice) and Sheffield United in Premier League meetings this season. Let’s hope that trend continues!
