'Very explosive': Emmanuel Petit predicts who will win this weekend...Arsenal or Manchester City

It’s Arsenal v Manchester City this weekend in one of the biggest games of the entire Premier League season.

The Gunners go to The Etihad knowing a win can put them in pole position to finally wrestle the title back from the north west.

Arsenal go into the game off the back of an impressive winning run. City, meanwhile, have a few bad injuries as both Kyle Walker and John Stones will miss out.

Of course, predicting a game like this is nigh on impossible. Cesc Fabregas has suggested the Gunners can win it, while Paul Merson also feels a result is there for Arsenal.

And adding his thoughts into the mix as well, former Arsenal midfielderEmmanuel Petit has offered his thoughts as well.

Emmanuel Petit predicts the result of Manchester City v Arsenal

Petit was speaking alongside Fabregas on this week’s episode of the Planet Premier League podcast.

And when asked to give his verdict and prediction on City against Arsenal this weekend, Petit went bold with his suggestion.

“I was about to say the same thing [a draw] but because you say 1-1, I know I maybe too optimistic but Arsenal is the best team away from home. I know the stats at home for City are very impressive but I’m very confident.

“I don’t know if Arsenal is going to win the title but I think they can do something over there so I want to dream, so I will bet for something like 2-1 or 3-2. I know it’s important this game and a lot of people see a close game tactically but I see a very explosive game,” Petit said.

What is Arsenal’s record against Manchester City?

In a nutshell, until very recently, not good.

Arsenal have actually won the last two fixtures. They won 1-0 in the Premier League clash back in October while they also won the Charity Shield on penalties. But prior to that, it’s been bleak during the Pep Guardiola years for the Gunners.

In fact, you have to go all the way back to December 2015 to find Arsenal’s last Premier League win over City.

Since then, City have dominated home and away, with just a sole 2-0 loss in the FA Cup semi-final in 2020.

Of course, stats aren’t everything and history is there to be re-written. But Arsenal go into this knowing City have had the upper-hand for some time now.

A win this weekend, then, would feel massive.
