'Decided to stay': Sky Sports expert says 'genius' coach has also decided he doesn't want the Liverpool job

Liverpool’s quest to appoint a new manager has taken more than its fair share of twists and turns already.

With the need to replace Jurgen Klopp with the right person of paramount importance to FSG and Liverpool, a number of names are being linked with the job.

Of course, the weekend’s news that Xabi Alonso will be staying with Bayer Leverkusen throws a bit of a spanner in the works for Liverpool.

The Reds could now pursue a move for Ruben Amorim, although David Ornstein has suggested a move to land Roberto De Zerbi could be wide of the mark.

That leaves Liverpool potentially looking elsewhere if they can’t land Amorim.

However, according to Sky Sports Italy’s expert, Gianluca Di Marzio, another potential Liverpool manager is also going to be ruled out soon.

While Amorim and De Zerbi are the two names getting most of the mentions this weekend, another name has also cropped up in reports.

That comes in the form of Italian manager, Simone Inzaghi.

The Inter Milan boss has impressed in Italy and reports today have claimed Liverpool have him on their list of potential Klopp replacements.

However, according to Di Marzio – as relayed by FC Inter News – Inzaghi will soon announce a new deal in Milan.

“Simone Inzaghi has some Premier League clubs that really appreciate him. But I think that he’s decided to stay. He’ll extend his contract. The time has not yet come for him to leave,” Di Marzio said of the Inter coach. There are still important goals left for him to achieve,” Di Marzio said.

What next for Liverpool with Simone Inzaghi following Xabi Alonso in rejecting them?

Put simply, the Reds will keep doing their due diligence and pushing on.

With Michael Edwards back overseeing things there’ll be no panic at all from the club.

Indeed, Inzaghi was likely one of the names who Liverpool fans were least keen on. He’s not quite as proven as the others in the list, or as exciting in fairness.

Thierry Henry has lauded Inzaghi’s tactics of being that of a ‘genius’. But after Antonio Conte’s nightmare spell with Tottenham, Reds fans might well be wary of another Serie A coach coming in.
