Gary O’Neil has provided fans with an injury update on Matheus Cunha, Hwang Hee-Chan and Pedro Neto following their defeat to Aston Villa.

Saturday’s defeat was a difficult one to take for many Wolves fans. Despite being on top throughout the opening exchanges, the visitors could not take advantage.

This was despite Rayan Ait-Nouri, Wolves’ hero of recent games, having a sitter six yards out to which he fired straight at Emi Martinez.

Injuries have really stacked up against Wolves and this was evident throughout the derby. While Villa could look to their bench to bring on experienced talents, the visitors had to rely on youngsters to change the game.

It seems that Wolves will finally see the return of an attacking option on Tuesday. The club have been in dire need of experienced attackers in recent games with youngsters Nathan Fraser and Leon Chiwome being forced into starts.

Against Villa, Mario Lemina was pushed out wide due to the low options O’Neil has in his first-team squad.

Thankfully, it now seems that another key player will be back. After Cunha was spotted in training within the week it was hoped he would be back for Villa. While this wasn’t the case, O’Neil confirmed that he will be for the games next week.

O’Neil told Wolves: “Cunha’s doing great and is miles ahead of schedule. He’s banging my door down to be involved and wanted to be involved today, but we need to make sure he’s right.

“We’ve had a couple of setbacks already from injury, so a more bit of good work into Matheus Cunha and he’ll be around for the games during the rest of the week, I’m sure of it. Channy is not too far behind him and Pedro is quite a way back.

“When they come back, they’ll give a really good attacking injection to help the boys who are already working their socks off. We go to Burnley on Tuesday, we’ll try to give the best we can and hopefully we can take three points.”

Wolves have been in dire need of Cunha in recent weeks. The Brazilian could have easily turned the tide in Wolves’ matches against Coventry and Villa with few attacking options working.

The Brazilian was on fire before his injury and netted a hat-trick in his last full game in a 4-2 victory over Chelsea.

If he is fit against Burnley, the manager must start him. Turf Moor is a perfect opportunity to return to winning ways given the hosts’ form and Wolves can’t take any chances.

Europe is still a possibility and O’Neil’s side need to take advantage of any weaker side when they get the chance.
