Forget Eze: 'Outstanding' Crystal Palace ace showed Glasner why he's so important once again - Our View

Crystal Palace dropped points from a winning position again on Saturday, drawing 1-1 to Nottingham Forest in a game that saw one star show just how important he is to Oliver Glasner.

It was another frustrating day for Crystal Palace, who continued their worrying trend of dropping points when going ahead in Premier League fixtures.

Oliver Glasner was again denied his league second win as manager of the Eagles, as Jean-Philippe Mateta’s first-half goal was chalked off by Chris Wood’s equaliser in the second half against Nottingham Forest.

It’s a difficult time for Palace, who have endured a mediocre season with little sign of progression however, one star proved once again why he is one of Glasner’s most important players at present.

Adam Wharton is one of Crystal Palace’s most important players

At a time of difficulty, you’d expect a more experienced player’s courage to shine through however, it was 20-year-old Adam Wharton who shone once more for the Eagles at the City Ground.

During the draw against Forest, Wharton received a host of praise from commentator Lee Hendrie, as well as having his performance celebrated on Twitter.

Content creator Luke Weaser-Seychell branded the January arrival as being a “class above” on Saturday afternoon, with his numbers warranting such praise.

As relayed by MatchdayCPFC, Wharton’s statistics since making the move from Blackburn Rovers to Palace in January have highlighted him as being one of the club’s most important players.

Since his arrival, no player at the club has created the most scoring chances (12) and big chances (2), than the Englishman, reinforcing just how vital a part he is to Glasner’s midfield.

Adam Wharton is consistently reliable for Crystal Palace

Previously lauded as “outstanding” by U23 scout Antonio Mango, Wharton seems to be moving from strength to strength in the top flight, emerging as one of Palace’s brightest sparks.

Against Forest, usual service resumed for the dominating 20-year-old, who recorded two key passes, one big chance created and completed 100% of the five long balls he played, with the only frustration of his afternoon being when he came off 10 minutes from time.

It’s becoming more and more apparent that Steve Parish and Roy Hodgson secured a £22.5m bargain in acquiring Wharton, who has adapted to life in the Premier League with ease.

Not many would have predicted just how quickly the 2004-born sensation would become an integral part of Palace’s squad, with Glasner seeing the light by allowing the youngster to exert his talent with a license to roam in midfield.

When you think of the top quality players at Selhurst Park, the mind would instantly turn to Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise although, Wharton is heading in the direction to be named as one of the club’s creative pioneers as time ticks on.

Having created so many chances, the only wish for the former Championship star will be that he records his first assist for the club, something that will surely come soon for the 20-year-old.
