Teen charged after 18-year-old found stabbed at N.J. athletic complex

Police charged a teenager after an 18-year-old Egg Harbor Township man was found stabbed at an athletic complex in Atlantic County on Friday evening.

Officers located the victim at the Childs-Kirk Memorial Park on Idlewood Avenue in Egg Harbor Township around 6 p.m. Friday, according to township police.

The facility, which backs up to both the Garden State Parkway and Atlantic City Expressway, is used by the Egg Harbor Township Softball Association and has several multiple-purpose athletic fields, according to the municipal website.

Police did not describe the severity of the 18-year-old’s injuries, but said Friday he was recovering at a local hospital from wounds to his abdomen. It was unclear if the stabbing happened at the field or if any of the fields were being used at the time police arrived.

Egg Harbor Township police administration did not immediately return a request by NJ Advance Media for comment on Sunday.

The teen charged, whose name and residency were not released, was charged with multiple offenses related to the stabbing, police said.

Both teens knew each other and the incident was not a random act of violence, police said. Officials have not disclosed a motive for the stabbing.
