Three things you should never do with your nails

Certified dermatologist Dr. Lindsey Zubritsky explained in a TikTok why you should never bite your nails – one of the things you should never do.

Our fingernails are a common place to get warts and these are contagious. So whenever you bite your nail, you’re risking the chances of an infection.

The second tip is to never pick on your hangnail or cuticle. This could end up causing open wounds and infections around your nail and the results are nasty and extremely painful.

Another thing we should never do with our nails may also surprise you. The dermatologist recommends against using UV gel nails.

She explained that UV dryers can lead to DNA damage and mutations in humans, which is backed by verified reports. This process can be a cause of cancer, so the salon technique is best avoided if you’re concerned about your health.

Common habit is dangerous for your oral health

Whether it’s anxiety-induced or a habit developed over the years, biting your nails can cause great damage.

Nail biting can result in tearing of the gums and you may experience pain in your jaws if done for a long time.

You could also damage your dental work, while the bacteria transferred from your nails to your gums can cause severe infections.

If you find yourself biting your nails and are struggling to break the habit, try the below.

  • Always have nail polish or nail enamel on so its taste repulses you when you bite.
  • Apply margosa oil on the tips of your nails as the bitterness can stop you from biting it.
  • Distract yourself with chewing gum or a healthy snack when tempted to bite your nails.
