King Charles joked with the public on Sunday as royal fans commented on how good the monarch looked after the Easter service.

The King led the Royal Family at the Easter Sunday service in Windsor in his first official public appearance since his cancer diagnosis.

Well-wishers waited outside of St. George’s chapel to catch a glimpse of the King and were pleasantly surprised when the King made a surprise walkabout to greet the public.

As the monarch shook hands with royal fans one man said: “Keep going strong, Your Majesty. Keep going strong, never give in.”

This was the first official public engagement that the King has attended since the monarch’s cancer was announced on February 5.

A palace source said that the King’s attendance is a “sign of things heading in the right direction.”

During his walkabout, the King told the crowds standing at the castle: “You’re very brave to stand out here in the cold.”

Aletha Kilgore, an opera singer from the US who attended the Easter service said that Charles’s appearance was “really significant.”

She said: “It indicates that he’s doing good and that he’s definitely on the incline in relation to his health, so that’s really nice to see.

“I also would like to thank him for attending the service today because I know that must’ve been a lot, but he shows himself to be committed to this nation and to people all around the world.”

She said: “I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to see him that closely today, but I certainly did.”

A wine merchant from Basingstoke, Henry Wood, also attended the service and spoke about how nice it was to see the family in “good spirits.”

“Obviously it being his first appearance in quite some time, I think people wanted to see him for that reason.

“He looked good today and in high spirits, and from what I’ve heard he’s doing good so it’s refreshing to hear.”
