Todd Cantwell makes feelings clear with Rangers Instagram post, cover your eyes

Seeing Todd Cantwell back in training for Rangers before the international break was a huge boost for Philippe Clement.

Tom Lawrence has done well deputising in the number 10 role but the Gers boss will be delighted to have his main playmaker fit and available in his squad again.

Against Hibs, Todd Cantwell looked intent on making a difference and provided the cross for Cyriel Dessers header to put Rangers back in front, despite this, the Light Blues number 13 clearly wasn’t happy.

Todd Cantwell makes frustrations known after Rangers win

Such is the way with modern footballers, Cantwell took to Instagram after the game and it’s safe to say that he wasn’t impressed with one person in particular.

There didn’t seem to be any particularly difficult decisions to make and yet referee David Dickinson seemed determined to create some.

The farce over Scott Wright’s disallowed has already been put to bed, it was a clear mistake by the officiating team.

Yes, Wright’s foot was on the line but there were at least four Hibs players who were also encroaching.

There is no debate, the penalty should have been retaken.

You would think that this was the biggest problem of the day, but it wasn’t.

Hibs players were allowed to catch Rangers players late and off the ball, whereas the other way around and Dickinson couldn’t blow his whistle quick enough.

Mohamed Diomande was booked was his first foul for stopping an attack yet Joe Newell got away with an almost identical incident where he made no attempt to play the ball.

And it was this sort of refereeing that clearly annoyed Todd Cantwell as Rangers grew frustrated at the two tier officiating.

His post on Instagram was a less-than-subtle explanation of how he must’ve been feeling despite a good performance and a 3-1 win.

On more than one occasion, Cantwell was seen remonstrating with Dickinson.

It’s the little 50/50 fouls that annoy players and the feeling that one team is getting away with things.

It’s these fouls that add up, and it means that opponents who should be on a yellow card are free to stop an attack.

What must frustrate Cantwell even more is that he seems to pick up yellow cards just for speaking to refs when he has been fouled.

Look at his recent injury, an absence caused by a tackle from another player, same with his knee injury earlier in the season.

It’s one of the major differences you see in European football, yellow card offences are normally dealt with a yellow card.

The SFA, before it does anything else, has to find the budget to make referees full time.

Allow them the time to get proper training and education and the opportunity to assess their performances in games.
