‘Always been a fan’: Peter Windsor says £15k-a-week driver has ‘over-delivered’ in a ‘high-pressure’ situation

While every driver on the Formula 1 grid is under immense pressure, the expectations are vastly different.

Questions would be asked at Red Bull if Max Verstappen went a few races without a win or if Charles Leclerc wasn’t challenging for pole positions.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Peter Windsor was praising one of the younger drivers on the grid.

So many drivers are fighting for another contract with plenty of changes expected on the grid for the 2025 season.

It means every time they take to the track they’re trying to impress not only their team bosses but those up and down the paddock as well.

The future of several drivers is already being questioned and one of those is Logan Sargeant.

He’ll be very frustrated that he wasn’t able to showcase his talents in Melbourne beyond Friday’s practice sessions.

Peter Windsor has admitted that he thinks Sargeant has over-delivered on what he expected from the young American.

He’s only got a single point to his name in his Formula 1 career but hasn’t exactly had the quickest car to drive during his first 25 races in the sport.

Peter Windsor thinks Logan Sargeant has over-delivered compared to expectations

Logan Sargeant had to wait until the beginning of the winter break to discover that he was being retained by Williams for this season.

After failing to challenge for a point in the first two Grand Prix of the season, Sargeant watched on in Australia as Alex Albon used his chassis after destroying his beyond repair in practice.

Sargeant should have his own car again in Suzuka where he had a big accident of his own in qualifying last year.

Jolyon Palmer has since questioned why Williams offered him a new contract if they didn’t have the confidence to let him drive in Melbourne.

There are already suggestions that Sargeant won’t be on the F1 grid beyond this season.

However, Windsor believes that Sargeant has over-delivered compared to his previous expectations of the £15,000-a-week driver.

The 23-year-old still has a long career ahead of him but it might end up being away from the Formula 1 paddock.

Logan Sargeant praised despite not racing in Australia

Speaking about the American, Windsor said: “Logan Sargeant’s been doing a pretty good job I think, a pretty good job.

“He’s probably over-delivered from what I thought he would do and I’ve always been a fan of his ever since his Formula Renault days.

“I think he’s gone pretty well, he gone into quite a high-pressure situation in which he’s found himself in in the last two years.

“And for him to actually have a massive lose also on the Friday but hold it to the point where he didn’t hit anything and bring the car back into the pits undamaged and then be the guy that’s been asked to leave his seat and give it to Alex Albon who has crashed in FP1 when you shouldn’t be crashing anyway.

“I mean FP1, give me a break and what did Alex do? He didn’t look that good, he didn’t score points. I don’t know what they were thinking.”

Will Logan Sargeant still be at Williams next season?

There’s already been a suggestion that virtually no one thinks Sargeant should be in his Williams seat, although Windsor suggesting he’s over-delivered shows that he’s got at least one fan of his work.

Sargeant has his work cut out to retain his seat and there’s already every chance that he’ll be looking for a new drive for 2025.

Williams haven’t got a replacement lined up yet and given James Vowles showed his faith in Sargeant in the winter to keep him on, he’s likely going to be given every opportunity to prove his worth but it’s unclear right now if a contract offer is coming.

It’s a difficult task being a second driver, especially at a team who are only challenging for minor points.

He needs to find a way to close the gap to Alex Albon quickly even if the Thai driver hasn’t started this season as well as he ended the last.
