‘A bit of luck’: Jeff Stelling & Andy Townsend both agree over controversial Everton decision v Bournemouth

Everton have been given almost no time to take in and analyse Saturday’s defeat to AFC Bournemouth, as another Premier League game has crept up on them.

Having enjoyed a three-week break between their last two matches, this time around there has been a mere two days of rest, with Newcastle United their next opponents tomorrow night.

The Toffees were previously a force to be reckoned with on the road, but that has since evaporated.

Now, whether it be home or away, they seem incapable of winning.

However, it does not help that nothing seems to be going their way…

Jeff Stelling and Andy Townsend both agree on Everton penalty shout

Speaking live on talkSPORT (01/04, 6:40 am) earlier this morning, both Jeff Stelling and Andy Townsend were in agreement whilst briefly chatting about Everton’s game at the weekend.

Whilst they listened in to one reporter offer the dire details of their latest accounts, the former would then just touch on the outstanding controversy from the Toffees’ failed trip to the south coast.

He noted:Everton, should’ve had a penalty shouldn’t they, down at Bournemouth when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was clearly brought down inside the box.’

Townsend chimed in: ‘Yeah, yeah he was.’

‘You need a bit of luck sometimes, don’t you?’ Stelling questioned, to which his co-host replied: ‘You need something to go for you. You really do.’

The former Sky Sports Soccer Saturday host would finish off their discussion by noting: ‘Nothing’s going for them at the moment, that’s for sure.’

Everton cannot rely on anyone else but themselves

Well, it is abundantly clear that Everton simply cannot rely on anyone but themselves to pull them to safety.

No opposition team will do them any favours, and certainly no officials will either.

The latter, if anything, have seemingly been on a mission to ensure that relegation is secured for one of England’s most historic sides with their questionable calls across the campaign.

Whether it be disallowed goals or penalties ignored, there are countless examples of the Toffees being hamstrung by a referee this season, detailed succinctly by the Fan Advisory Board back in January.

And whilst it might seem a tall order, for Sean Dyche’s men to start taking accountability and performing at a level to put results beyond all reasonable doubt, there is simply no other option.

It’s all they have left, and it could prove to be the difference between not just survival in the top-flight, but survival as a club.
