'Gutted': Manuel Akanji sends 21-word message after Man City's 0-0 draw against Arsenal on Sunday

Manuel Akanji has had his say on Instagram after Manchester City drew 0-0 to Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.

Akanji was tasked to play at right-back, replacing an injured Walker against the Gunners.

The £15 million man did not put a foot wrong, keeping Gabriel Jesus quiet during the majority of the contest.

Once again, the Swiss defender proved why his versatility is priceless to this Manchester City side as Kyle Walker’s absence was not felt due to his presence at right-back.

The 28-year-old was a part of a City defence who were largely untroubled by the visitors on Sunday.

Unfortunately for Akanji, his side’s attack were not firing on all cylinders, as they simply failed to trouble the North Londoners’ defence, which was also exceptional on Sunday.

“Gutted that we didn’t get all three points after a dominant performance but we still got a lot to play for”, he wrote on Instagram.

Erling Haaland also expressed his positivity regarding the defending champions’ prospects in the title fight after the game.

Manuel Akanji needs to channel this mentality into his performances until the end of the season

Considering Manuel Akanji seems to realise that all is not lost for Manchester City and their hopes of retaining their league title after their draw against Arsenal, he must channel this optimistic mentality into his performances until the end of the season.

After all, Pep Guardiola confirmed that Kyle Walker’s injury is far more serious than John Stones’, which indicates that he could be out of action for more games.

As a result, Akanji will likely be tasked to continue playing at right-back, with important games against Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Real Madrid on the horizon in under two weeks.
