Ange Postecoglou fires warning to West Ham chief David Sullivan

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has fired a warning to West Ham chief David Sullivan amid uncertainty as the rivals meet in the Premier League.

West Ham vs Tottenham Hotspur is always a big game in the Premier League.

And there’s plenty to play for when the rivals meet at the London Stadium on Tuesday night as the race for the European places enters its end game.

The Hammers got one over on Tottenham with a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture back in November.

Brady wanted Postecoglou at West Ham

It was less than a year ago that West Ham were being linked Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou as a potential replacement for David Moyes.

West Ham vice-chair Karren Brady made it clear the then Celtic boss would be her choice should the manager depart. And she even predicted his style of football would be a huge hit in the Premier League.

Moyes remained and Postecoglou joined Tottenham where he has quickly proved Brady right.

Fast forward to present day and a disastrous Hammers collapse at Newcastle saw the team throw away a 3-1 lead to lose 4-3 in the last 15 minutes.

Moyes has been blamed for his negative tactics which saw him take Michail Antonio off for Kalvin Phillips on 70 minutes.

It has once again put his West Ham future in the spotlight.

Sections of the fanbase remain divided over whether they want the Scot to stay.

Some supporters want continuity with Moyes – whose contract is up this summer – and believe he deserves a new long-term deal.

Moyes’ future under the spotlight again

Others crave a more progressive, expansive style and approach – like that on display under Postecoglou at Spurs.

A top Hammers News source close to majority owner David Sullivan has made it clear no decision will be made on Moyes’ future until the end of the season.

But ahead of the game Tottenham’s manager has made his feelings on the situation clear.

The Australian says Moyes is one of the managers he looks up to.

And he simply doesn’t understand why West Ham would not want him to continue the ‘brilliant job’ he’s doing in east London. Because Postecoglou believes the Hammers will only continue to get better under Moyes.

“I think he’s an outstanding manager. I rate him so highly,” Postecoglou said, as reported by BBC Sport.

Spurs boss fires warning to Sullivan

“He is one of the ones I have always rated highly. Longevity in the game means something, especially at this level…

“I think he has done a brilliant job at West Ham and anyone that thinks otherwise (hasn’t got a clue). The team they are today, the players they’ve got there, they have some high-quality footballers in that team and I think they’re going to get better.

“I guess it’s a bit of today’s world we live in where there is always a short-term reflex to everything that happens, but I’ve got no doubt he is one of the outstanding managers in the game.”
