Report: West Ham eyeing manager of Premier League London club to replace Moyes this summer

West Ham United could be looking to replace David Moyes as manager at the end of the current season.

David Moyes has experienced plenty of ups and downs in his role as West Ham manager, but now the club could be looking to replace him come the end of the season.

The 60-year-old Hammers boss was dangerously close to losing his job around this time last season, and he was sailing close to the wind again just five or six months ago, with reports claiming that the club owners could move him on.

It’s a tough one when discussing whether Moyes deserves a new contract or not. There will be those who say that deserves one for the job he’s done over the past four years – he guided us from relegation candidates to three successive European campaigns and our first major trophy since 1980 after all!

However, there are those who think he’s reached his ceiling as Hammers manager, and cannot take the club forward any more.

If I’m honest, I’m in the second camp, but that doesn’t mean I don’t respect what he’s done for this club over the past four years.

With the players Moyes has at his disposal now, he should be implementing a far more attractive, easy-on-the-eye playing style. That doesn’t mean that results would worsen either – you can be successful AND play good football!

If we are to make some real progress as a club, I do think that the West Ham board need to make a managerial change, and it seems like that’s exactly what they could do this summer…

West Ham eyeing Premier League manager to replace David Moyes

Moyes has taken charge of 43 games in all competitions this season. In fairness to him, the below stats really aren’t that bad, via Footy Stats:

  • 1.6 points per game
  • 46.51% win rate
  • 1.63 goals scored per game
  • 1.56 goals conceded per game

However, many Hammers fans just want to be entertained on a more regular basis now. Leopards never change their spots, and Moyes is clearly too set in his ways to start overseeing a more expansive playing style.

Now it seems like the West Ham owners could be set to look across London for the Scot’s replacement…

Give Me Sport claim that the Hammers owners are keen admirers of current Fulham manager Marco Silva.

The 46-year-old has actually been linked with the London Stadium hot-seat before, just one month ago in fact.

Silva predominantly sets up his team in a 4-2-3-1 formation, although that is extremely fluid and changes in and out of possession. The Portuguese likes to have a tall striker acting as the focal point for his team, and he mixes things up as far as playing out from the back goes.

Sometimes the 46-year-old will have his team play far more direct football whenever the situation calls for it. Fulham play with a very fluid style, and are extremely easy on the eye.

I think Silva would be a decent option to replace Moyes. However, it must be said that he failed at Everton after being heavily backed in the transfer market as well.

The football may be better under Marco Silva but would he be able to take us higher than seventh? I’m not so sure on that.

The manager brought in to replace David Moyes at West Ham has to be a step up on the Scot in every single department, and I just don’t see that being the case with Silva.
