‘I rate him so highly’: Ange Postecoglou says one West Ham man is simply ‘outstanding’

Tottenham Hotspur Ange Postecoglou has singled out one West Ham United man for praise ahead of tonight’s match.

There is plenty riding on tonight’s clash at the London Stadium as Tottenham bid to leapfrog Aston Villa into fourth place.

David Moyes will be looking for a response after his side blew a 3-1 lead at St James’ Park over the weekend.

West Ham’s players will need no reminder of how big a game against Spurs is for the fans. But this also feels like a huge clash for Moyes, who continues to face scrutiny from the Hammers faithful.

The Scotsman has West Ham sitting in seventh place, with a Europa League quarter-final just around the corner.

But there have been suggestions that Moyes could leave at the end of the season, with the likes of Wolves boss Gary O’Neil being eyed as a potential replacement.

Despite the speculation surrounding his future, Moyes has an admirer in Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou lauds Moyes ahead of West Ham vs Tottenham

Speaking to Football.London, Postecoglou discussed the criticism Moyes has faced this season.

“Yeah, probably. I think he’s an outstanding manager,” the Tottenham boss said. “I rate him so highly. He is one of the ones I have always rated highly. Longevity in the game means something, especially at this level.

“Whether it was at Everton or the difficult job he had at Man United, he went abroad and has never stopped coaching. I think he has done a brilliant job at West Ham and anyone that thinks otherwise… the team they are today, the players they’ve got there, they have some high-quality footballers in that team and I think they’re going to get better.

“I guess it’s a bit of today’s world we live in where there is always a short-term reflex to everything that happens, but I’ve got no doubt he is one of the outstanding managers in the game.”

West Ham vs Tottenham

Moyes has certainly proven he is capable of picking up results against the top sides and boasts a decent record against Spurs of late.

Of course, the Hammers beat Tottenham 2-1 in north London earlier this season after falling behind in the game.

Tottenham have gone three games without a win at the London Stadium in the Premier League, which is their longest run since going six games without a win at Upton Park between 1995 and 2001.

Recent history certainly favours the Hammers in this fixture, but Spurs are capable of blowing teams away on their day.
