Paul Merson shares Tottenham concern after what he’s seen ahead of Tuesday’s West Ham clash

Tottenham Hotspur have been warned ahead of their game against West Ham United by Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson.

There has been a real unpredictability from the Lilywhites in recent weeks with Tottenham thumping Aston Villa before then being turned over by Fulham.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s side were able to get back to winning ways on the weekend with a late win over Luton Town.

Heung-min Son provided Spurs with the winner in the dying minutes of the game, but it seems not everyone was left impressed.

What Paul Merson said about West Ham vs Tottenham

Spurs have already lost against the Hammers this season and that came on the rare occasion that they actually took the lead at home.

But there is a real sense of uncertainty about what Spurs side are going to turn up tonight.

No one would be surprised to see Postecoglou’s men walk away with a 3-0 victory against the Hammers, but equally no one would be stunned if West Ham were to win convincingly.

The Hammers are coming into this London Derby with a point to prove after capitulating against Newcastle United on the weekend.

Speaking ahead of the game on Tuesday night to Sportskeeda, Merson shared his concerns about Tottenham’s lack of consistency.

He said: ‘Tottenham are becoming a bag of rebels. They were excellent against Villa before they got slaughtered by Fulham, and they stumbled over the line against Luton.

‘They could win or lose this game by a 3-0 margin, and you wouldn’t flinch either way. They’re getting back to the Tottenham of old – their inconsistency could hurt them.’

What Ange Postecoglou said about West Ham ahead of the game

Tuesday night’s game at the London Stadium will offer Spurs with the opportunity to climb back into the top four ahead of Aston Villa’s game.

Spurs start the day with a game in hand still over Unai Emery’s side and will be hoping for a favour from Manchester City when they play Villa on Wednesday.

But Postecoglou will be focused on what he can control and will be hoping for another similarly brilliant display from Brennan Johnson.

The Australian was full of praise for the Welshman on the back of the victory on Saturday after he came on at half time for Dejan Kulusevski.

However, the 58-year-old will not be taking Tuesday’s opposition lightly despite their dreadful display on Tyneside over the weekend.

In fact, Postecoglou has hailed David Moyes as one of the managers he has already held in high regard.

He said: “Yeah, probably. I think he’s an outstanding manager. I rate him so highly. He is one of the ones I have always rated highly. Longevity in the game means something, especially at this level.

“Whether it was at Everton or the difficult job he had at Man United, he went abroad and has never stopped coaching. I think he has done a brilliant job at West Ham and anyone that thinks otherwise… the team they are today, the players they’ve got there, they have some high-quality footballers in that team and I think they’re going to get better.”

Spurs know full well just how difficult a game West Ham can give them – especially at the London Stadium – with no win coming at the stadium since 2019 in Jose Mourinho’s first game.
