‘Important’ Leicester City star hailed for causing Norwich City ‘a lot of problems’

Leicester City returned to winning ways on Monday, as they defeated play-off hopefuls Norwich City 3-1 at King Power Stadium.

Enzo Maresca‘s side went behind inside the opening 20 minutes after Gabriel Sara tapped home a well-worked corner routine.

But, the hosts responded well and were well worth their 33rd-minute leveller, which came via talisman Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Just after the hour mark, the City academy graduate turned provider for Stephy Mavididi, who cleverly jinked past Jack Stacey before rolling the ball home to put the hosts in front.

Jamie Vardy, who missed a number of big chances away at Bristol City, made no mistake in netting the all-important third goal in stoppage time.

BBC Radio Leicester pundit Matt Piper was pleased with one performance, in particular.

Heading into the clash, Dewsbury-Hall was without a goal or an assist in six Championship games and had been performing below his usual standards.

Though, he looked back to his very best against Norwich and Piper was quick to praise his display, speaking post-match.

“I think Dewsbury-Hall getting into that inside left position really caused Norwich a lot of problems,” the BBC pundit said.

“The amount of times he picked it up in there and the good things that were coming from him previous to his goal.

“It wasn’t just after his goal he grew in confidence, I thought he had the confidence out there today.

“He was front-footed, he was getting on the ball in certain areas, his passing was neat and tidy.

“I thought he delivered a couple of wicked balls into the Norwich penalty area, so for me, he was that driving force and personality out of the team.

“So that was important from him.”

Dewsbury-Hall has enjoyed a stellar campaign and many consider him one of the best players in the Championship.

That notion was certainly amplified on Monday afternoon after heading home the leveller before laying on the assist for Mavididi’s curling strike.

His underlying data was impressive, too, making a whopping five key passes and winning six of his 10 ground duels, as per Sofascore.

Further, he maintained an 87 per cent pass completion rate, which is particularly impressive given the number of incisive balls he attempted.

With Birmingham City up next at King Power, Foxes fans will be hopeful of another starring performance from their Shepshed-born playmaker.
