Spotify's 'genius' April Fools' prank has listeners in hysterics

Spotify users can’t stop laughing at themselves after falling prey to Spotify DJ’s hilarious prank on 2024 April Fools Day.

Every year, the music streaming platform fools its listeners with a cute yet convincing joke, and this year too, the AI bot effortlessly pulled a prank on many users, perhaps including you.

Spotify DJ pulls April Fools prank on listeners

Spotify users thought the AI DJ was dedicating a hand-picked song for them until they realized it wasn’t. The bot is pranking listeners by speaking mid-stream to tell them they are special, followed by a track.

Spotify users have noted that they were met with a voice note by the AI bot as it took a “heartfelt” moment to let listeners know how great an audience they’ve been.

The virtual DJ would play a song to express gratitude as users waited with bated breath to listen to the special track.

But, the voice note concludes as Ku-Ku Jodel by Oesh’s Die Dritten starts to play, only to reveal in the end that it was an April Fools’ prank, and the same track with yodeling was dedicated to most users.

Spotify users think the 2024 prank is the best joke staged by the music app yet as it has them in hysterics.

One user who fell for the joke, wrote on Twitter(X): “My Spotify DJ was one of the best April Fools’ jokes of the day.”

“I forgot today was April Fools Day until my Spotify DJ played a special song for me,” said another.

A third user: “I’ve got to admit Spotify DJ’s April Fools prank was simply genius.”

Where to find the AI DJ

Spotify introduced AI DJ sometime last year to assist listeners while streaming on the platform.

“The DJ knows you and your music taste so well that it will scan the latest releases we know you’ll like, or take you back to that nostalgic playlist you had on repeat last year,” the website noted.

The personalized feature has been made available for premium users in select countries including the United States.
