Brennan Johnson has done something no other Premier League player has managed this season

Brennan Johnson has made quite the impact off the bench in recent home games at Tottenham Hotspur.

The 22-year-old’s latest display came in the 2-1 win over Luton Town, where he was introduced for Dejan Kulusevski at halftime.

With Tottenham trailing 1-0, Brennan Johnson came off the bench to force an own goal with a brilliant cross before setting up Heung-min Son for the winner.

Johnson faced some early criticism after joining Spurs from Nottingham Forest over the summer. But the winger has certainly stepped up in recent weeks.

He’s managed eight goal contributions in his last 12 Premier League appearances. Yet, what has been more impressive has been the winger’s ability to change games from the bench.

According to WhoScored, Johnson has been directly involved in more goals than any other Premier League player as a substitute.

Johnson records impressive Premier League stat

The statistics site claims that Johnson has managed two goals and four assists as a substitute this term.

That’s a total of six goal contributions and no other player in England’s top flight has managed the same impact from the bench.

Postecoglou challenges Johnson to be more consistent

Following his heroics from the bench on Saturday, Postecoglou challenged Johnson to produce more consistent performances.

The winger has put in some encouraging displays of late and starred in the 4-0 win over Aston Villa last month. But just a week later, he struggled in what was a poor team performance at Fulham.

That’s ultimately why Johnson dropped to the bench against Luton on Saturday but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him regain his starting place at West Ham tonight.

Johnson has endured a couple of tough periods in his first year at Spurs but we are starting to see what the winger can provide in a Postecoglou team.

Kulusevski hasn’t exactly been at his best in recent weeks either so it would make sense for Johnson to start at West Ham.
