“I hope he thinks about Rangers” Clement reveals Ibrox star talks amid interest from 2 teams

Rangers midfielder Mohamed Diomande is certainly no stranger to being the centre of attention.

The talented Ivorian midfielder has been singled out for stardom ever since his days in the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana.

Even before the midfielder moved to Rangers in a £4.5m loan-to-buy switch from FC Nordsjælland in January there were several clubs tailing his signature.

After settling on Ibrox, it’s that stint in the West African nation that has presented the talented 23-year-old with something of a dilemma heading into a crucial part of his career.

Now, Gers manager Philippe Clement has revealed some personal talks with Mohamed Diomande about the situation.

Ghana or Ivory Coast for Mohamed Diomande?

Being Ivorian, Mohamed Diomande was called up to the Ivory Coast U23s during the most recent international break.

But the midfielder was then presented with another option when Ghana, Diomande’s adopted nation with whom he owns a passport, called up him up to the first team.

It led to Mohamed Diomande taking to social media to admit that, whilst he was flattered to be called up by both nations, he will be settling on just one.

It really is a big decision for the 23-year-old midfielder, who will be locked into representing either nation when he pulls on their shirt as a player.

Philippe Clement wants Rangers focus

Philippe Clement has since been offering his two cents about the situation and has put the ball firmly in Mohamed Diomande’s court.

Whilst the Rangers manager has an open door policy to all his players, there is only one man who can make the decision and it’s the midfielder himself.

But for Clement, the Belgian just hopes that Diomande puts Rangers at the forefront of his thinking in the process.

“The fact two countries want him shows his quality,” said Clement. “Like we said in January when he came in, he’s still a young player, but one with a really bright future.

“We will see what decision he’s going to make around the national team. Because it’s a decisive decision. Once you make it, it’s for life.

“It’s not an easy one, not when family and all of those things are involved. But he has a little bit more time to think now. But I hope he first thinks about Rangers.”

Mohamed Diomande has made a big impression since moving to Rangers in January and he is in line to make his Old Firm debut this weekend.
